IS-O-Lympic Games 2005 - Results

The IS-O-Lympic Games were held at the DGI-Byen Conference Hotel and Sports Center, partly at the ISO Congress Get-together evening, Thursday 14th April, partly during the program until the Saturday evening Gala Dinner and Dance, when the medal winners were announced and celebrated.

Supervisor and instructor Thursday was Rikke of DGI-Byen that guided everybody to the right place. Jury Saturday were Marianne Møller and Anders Jensen, both of BLB's organising committee.

And the winners were:

Pétanque (Boule)

Due to fading daylight in the evening there were not sufficient time for semifinals and finals, why the winners were elected according to their majority of points against their competitors. As Pétanque is played by couples, there were two winners in each category, namely:

BRONZE: Inger Madsen and Anders Jensen, both Denmark.

SILVER:   Paul Champs and Philippe Faverot, both France.

GOLD:      Lisa Mikkelsen, denmark and Winfried Lambertz, Germany.

Bowling

The bowling competition was hard with 32 participants, all fighting in 2 tough hours. The winners were:

BRONZE: Lars Thaysen, Denmark.

SILVER:   Frode Waaler, Norway.

GOLD:      Troy Abrahamsen, Poland.

Rifle Shooting

17 courageous "snipers" joined for a half hours instruction, test shots and two series of shots at 15 meters range, supported and free standing. The holes in the targets were indisputable, the winners:

BRONZE: Paul Champs, France, 80 points.

SILVER:   Peter Madsen, Denmark, 84 points.

GOLD:      Hans Jørgen Dalum, Denmark, 85 points.

It was close, Jean-Claude Filhol got 79 points, best lady, Inger Madsen, Denmark got 72, Jürg Breitenmoser, Switzerland 71 and just for the record, Preben Bailey, Sweden 60 (no 6 from the bottom!).

Swimming

The oval swimming pool was exactly 100 M per round, and swimming was possible in the mornings, for the early (sea-)birds, and Friday and Saturday afternoons between the business and the pleasure program. The ticket proved, you had participated, and there was no doubt about the results, as the only participant swimming more than 1000 M (actually 3000 M) won the Gold.

BRONZE:   Philippe Faverot, France  *)

SILVER:    Paul Champs, France        *)

GOLD:      Anna Bailey, Sweden

Poker

The poker table was set and brand new decks of cards imported from Las Vegas (thanks to Global Shop), why we did not understand nobody had registered for poker?

But a few participants got itchy fingers, and rather than neglecting the opportunity of winning a medal in "cards" they voluntered playing Solitaire/Patience! This clearly qualified, why the winners announced were:

BRONZE: Leiv Kåre Svindland, Norway

SILVER:   Berta Iversen, Norway

GOLD:      Karin Martinussen, Denmark

Shopping

The entirely new Olympic discipline of shopping was another competition that went on all three days, and the challenge was not only to buy something "DANISH" at a max. price of DKK 20,- (approx. 2,50 Euro), but to motivate why THAT particular item was typically Danish!

The Jury had a tough job selecting the worthy winners, but the decisions were unanimous:

BRONZE: Leiv Kåre Svindland (beating his wife Anne Brit!), Norway  *)

SILVER:   Sylvie Faverot, France                                                             *)

GOLD:      Vanette Champs, France                                                          *)

Wall Climbing

Under instruction, and wearing a safety harness, the competitors had to climb a vertical 6 M high indoor wall with very little to hold on to. It was our expectation, that shopfitters, negotiating prices with their customers, sooner or later start climbing the walls, and therefore are almost professionals, but "surprise"  -  the winners were:

BRONZE:  Mads Nielsen, Denmark

SILVER:    Hermann Jurrius, Holland

GOLD:       Barbara Edmonds, England

ISO's special Congress participation award

And the ISO INFORMATION OFFICE's and Congress organisers' PERPETUAL TROPHY, for most consequent participation and stamina, undeserved not resulting in medals, but nevertheless positive and never giving up, was by the Danish Shopfitting Organisation president Hans Jørgen Dalum under warm applause given to:

Jonathan Loader, England.
